Electrochemical technologies combined with membrane filtration

The aim of this article is to review the recent progress in coupling membrane separation and electrochemical technologies for water treatment. Process integration strategies have been classified three groups. first group deals with electrocoagulation electrooxidation as pretreatment separation, most cases aimed at reducing fouling decay permeate flux porous ultrafiltration membranes. second dedicated remediation treatment nanofiltration reverse osmosis concentrates, which accumulate priority pollutants emerging contaminants. Finally, evaluates optimal using process systems engineering tools, producing a single purified stream, considering not only minimization energy consumption but also total costs. Overall, it concluded that preconcentration strategy provides remarkable enhancement performance degrade persistent pollutants.
